Olive pruning

Spring is in full swing, and with it the time to prune olive trees. At OPG Bubičić, this activity is taken seriously because we know that proper pruning is essential for tree health, olive quality and a fruitful harvest. In this blog, we will present you how pruning is carried out in our olive grove and why it is so important.

Why is pruning important?

Regular pruning of olive trees offers a number of advantages:

  • tree health – removing diseased and damaged branches improves air and light circulation in the canopy, which prevents the spread of diseases and pests
  • quality of olives – proper pruning contributes to the even distribution of nutrients in the crown, which results in larger and better quality olives
  • bountiful harvest – by stimulating the growth of new branches and flowers, pruning helps achieve a bountiful harvest
  • tree shaping – pruning controls the shape and size of the crown, facilitates harvesting and optimizes the use of space in the olive grove
